Diabetes Camp

Week Long Diabetes Camp Program for youth ages 6-17 years

OVERNIGHT CAMP PROGRAMS

DIABETES CAMP

Diabetes Camp gives children with Type 1 diabetes the chance to meet other kids facing the same daily challenges of living with diabetes.

Our 24-hour staff of physicians, nurses and counselors are closely involved with the day to day activities to ensure that all medical needs are being met. This dedicated team enables each child the chance to gain increased self-confidence, build self esteem and to develop important self-management skills.

Our first priority is the physical and medical safety of our campers while they enjoy a traditional summer camp experience.

At camp, children and teens make new friends, explore the world around them, and learn that “I can” has more power than “I can’t”.  In an environment created just for them, children learn real life skills, develop self-esteem and gain a sense of independence and community.

Whether children are playing, exploring nature, conquering new heights or becoming part of the camp family, they are creating memories that last a lifetime.  Plus children and teens are gaining resilience and a reawakened zeal to take care of themselves that lasts long after they’ve returned home.

CAMP MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Diabetes Camps make a difference in the lives of children with diabetes. In 2015, the American Diabetes Association completed a three-year study on the impact of Camps on the children who attend. Results show improvements in self-confidence, diabetes-related stress, knowledge of diabetes management, and overall diabetes management. Camps have a positive effect on campers and make a difference, one camper at a time.

Self-Confidence

  • A 10% increase in campers who are confident to manage their diabetes, with the greatest improvements among the newly diagnosed (16% increase)

Diabetes-Related Stress

  • A 7% decrease in diabetes-related anger
  • A 6% decrease in diabetes-related sadness

Knowledge of Diabetes Management

  • An 11% increase of overall knowledge of proper diabetes management

Diabetes Management

  • A 10% increase in overall ability to self-manage problems related to diabetes management
